When Did Tape Gum Originate?
Hubba Bubba Bubble Tape Gum was first introduced in 1988. The unique style of the gum made it an instant hit for kids and teenagers and by the early 1990s, Hubba Bubba tape gum reached peak popularity. The 6 feet of gum within the package is wrapped in the shape of a spiral in order to allow the gum to be optimal for dispensing. The gum is dispensed in a similar manner to actual tape. You open the top of the container, pull the gum out to your desired length, then push the top of the container back down and closed to cut the portion of gum you have chosen. During Hubba Bubba tape gum's peak popularity in the 90s, over 1 million containers of the gum were manufactured every week.
